Haddon Robinson, who has been often called “the preacher’s preacher,” passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the age of 86.
Robinson previously taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, served as interim president of Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, and president of Denver Seminary. He also served as Senior Editor for Preaching Today.
Of the many books he wrote during sixty-plus years of ministry, his most influential work was Biblical Preaching, which is used as a standard text in seminary level homiletics courses.
Dr. Robinson taught that sermons should be guided by the biblical text and focus on one idea or theme, saying, “Ideally each sermon is the explanation, interpretation, or application of a single dominant idea supported by other ideas, all drawn from one passage or several passages of Scripture.”
Haddon Robinson was a champion for expository preaching, and more significantly, a champion for Christ-centered preaching. His influence will be seen in pulpits throughout the world for generations to come.
